Kidnapping and Assault Charges in Whitby
Three Whitby residents were charged in connection with a kidnapping and assault in which a victim was forcibly detained and assaulted with a broken bottle and a knife over an alleged debt. Kevin Marrast faced additional charges of uttering threats and assault with a weapon. Two accused were arrested at the scene and a warrant was issued for the third. The victim escaped only after convincing his captors he could obtain money from the social services office, where he alerted staff and police were called. Kidnapping and forcible confinement are serious indictable offences under the Criminal Code. Assault with a weapon and uttering threats are additional charges that carry their own significant penalties. Road Rage Assault in Oshawa
On September 17, 2013, a motorist was assaulted in what Durham Regional Police described as a road rage incident in Oshawa. The incident began on Simcoe Street South at approximately 2:15 pm when a cyclist confronted a van driver about blocking the sidewalk. The altercation escalated and the cyclist sprayed pepper spray into the driver’s eyes before fleeing south on Hall Street on a mountain bike. Police sought a Caucasian male believed to be in his late teens with blond hair, wearing a white ball cap, a black-and-white jacket, and jeans. Spraying pepper spray at another person constitutes assault under the Criminal Code.
