Woman Attacked by Teenagers Outside Scarborough Town Centre
In mid-March, a twenty-six-year-old woman was robbed and assaulted by two sixteen-year-old girls outside the Scarborough Town Centre at approximately 7:30 pm. The victim was approached as she was leaving the mall, and the two teenagers stole from her and physically assaulted her. Young persons aged twelve to seventeen who face criminal charges are governed by the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA). Depending on the severity of the offence and the circumstances, a youth may be tried as an adult. particularly those between fourteen and seventeen facing serious violent offences. The YCJA focuses on accountability, rehabilitation, and reintegration, but serious consequences including custody remain possible.
